SSP was engaged by the University of Texas at Brownsville to design and oversee the renovation of an old courtyard within the Eidman Building complex. The courtyard renovation was designed in response to the relocation of the music department to this facility.

The design included provision of outdoor seating, gathering and small performance areas. New brick paving and planting areas were included in the design as well as additional tropical and subtropical palms for shade and vertical accent. Historic benches using tropical hardwoods and ornamental ironwork were chosen to add character and ambiance to the courtyard. A large live oak tree was preserved to provide shade and shelter for the seating areas.

The project was completed in February 2003.
